Does Contact Form 7 Work for Stars.bz Hostees
« on: March 18, 2015, 15:14:08 PM »
I've had the WordPress plugin 'Contact Form 7' installed, but it's not working. I think it sometimes works, or it has in the past. Seems like whenever I test it, it's not working. I just tried to send a couple of emails to myself to test it on 2 different contact forms on my site, and I didn't receive any of those emails. Will 'Contact Form 7' not work for us at all? Do I have to just list my email on my website ONLY instead. Or perhaps something in cPanel needs to be configured or set up? I'm clueless.

HELP! I need to get a contact form to work, because I doing a project requiring fans/visitors to submit questions to me for a Q & A with my site's celebrity.

Thanks in advance!  :)

I forgot to mention that I have a Gmail account, and I'm wanting the emails to send to my Gmail account, the emails that visitors send me. I have received emails in the past in my spam folder and they've come from using the 'Contact Form 7'. I can tell they were sent from the contact form, because I'll see this message at the bottom of each email: "This mail is sent via contact form on http://mikeposnerhits.com"

I have tried using the plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/ but it's doesn't work. It won't send the emails, I see an error message whenever this plugin is activated.

Do I need to try this plugin along with 'Contact Form 7' https://wordpress.org/plugins/postman-smtp/ ?

I have no clue how to fix this email issue. I'm lost. I've tried searching for answers in the Wordpress.org support, but it's confusing. I just would like visitors to be able to contact me using a simple contact form on my website without having to copy or click on my email address to do so.

Hi Christina,

Yes, Contact Form 7 should work.

I just tried sending a test message. Did you receive it?

If not, please try using Fast Secure Contact Form instead. I find it works better, and is more streamlined.

Yes! I did receive your test message. I was testing it a few more times from 3 different browsers, and I was receiving them. Except those first couple of times that I tried while using Firefox and during the same time I was logged into WordPress. It's weird that I never received a message until I logged out of WordPress. Then I double checked on Chrome and IE.

How do I stop all of my emails from going into the spam folder that I receive from the contact form? They ALL go into my spam folder. I may have to try Fast Secure Contact Form, because I'm always worried that I'm not receiving all of my messages thru the contact form 7. I'm occasionally testing it, and sometimes I do notice that I don't get all of the test emails. I'll test out the other plugin soon.

Thank you for replying!  :D

Maybe it doesn't work when you are logged in, I'm not too sure. But going by what you described, it sounds like that might be the issue.

Regarding the mail going to spam, try marking them as "Not Spam" in Gmail. After a while, they should hopefully land in your inbox.

You could also look at whitelisting the emails in Gmail:

I'm not so sure whitelisting will work. The "from" emails aren't from my domain, they're from the visitors. Does that make sense? Since I don't have a username@mydomain.com email account, I don't see how it's gonna work. Unless I have the contact form 7 set up wrong, LOL. Do I? I'm currently not on my PC, typing this from my phone, but I do believe I have the contact form 7 set up right. I think.

I always select "Not Spam" when the emails sent to me through the contact form are in my spam folder. I'm pretty sure 100% of the time they go straight to spam.

I really wish that Gmail would create and release a contact form plugin for WordPress. It would be so nice.

Yes, you are right. I didn't think about that, sorry. What you said makes sense.

However, looking into it a bit more, it seems you may be able to set the "From" address in Contact Form 7. Then set the "Reply-to" address to the sender.

So it should look something like this:

From: WordPress <wordpress@mikeposnerhits.com>
Reply-to: [your-name] <[your-email]>

The "Reply-to" goes in the Additional headers section:

Yes, I did read more into how to set up the CF7. I didn't use wordpress@mikeposnerhits.com, instead I went with noreply@mikeposnerhits.com. DO you think that will be OK? I read noreply mentioned somewhere in a tutorial, so I thought that was a good email to go with so that no one tries responding or emailing that nonexistent email address, LOL.

To: MikePosnerHits.com <mikeposnerhits@gmail.com>
From: [your-name] <noreply@mikeposnerhits.com>
Additional headers: Reply-To: [your-name] <[your-email]>

Seems like the emails that I received yesterday all started going into my inbox and not the spam folder, but I believe that's due to me selecting not spam on a couple that did end up in spam at first. Right now, I'm receiving several emails a day, because my site's celeb is doing a Q&A with his fans, which they've got me involved with handling/receiving the questions from fans for him to answer. So, that's why I needed to get the CF7 working correctly. I created a new contact form for the post I created yesterday mentioning the Q&A. I think contact forms are simple and easy for most people to fill out while their still on the website.

So, I haven't yet looked into the Fast Secure Contact Form yet, I may wait a few days later to try it out. Most likely, I'll wait until the Fan Q&A is over with.

For added security I do use the plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/really-simple-captcha/ for the CF7.

I also use the plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/captcha/ for my WP Login form, Registration form, Reset Password form, and Comments form.

I used to get spam comments a lot! I still get them every once in awhile.

What are your thoughts on other anti-spam methods out there, like No-Captcha and ReCaptcha plugins? I've heard great things about both types, and I've come across plugins like these: https://wordpress.org/plugins/goodbye-captcha/ and https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-recaptcha-integration/

The Goodbye Captcha also will let you choose to hide the comments form website URL field and the tags and text like "your email will not be published". I bet removing those will help get rid of spam a lot! I'm thinking of trying Goodbye Captcha and I can delete BOTH other plugins, Captcha and Really Simple Captcha. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks again for your help!

Great, I'm glad to hear it is working properly now. Seeing as you have Contact Form 7 working as expected, there is really no need to switch to Fast Secure Contact Form.

Regarding the captcha, you will always get some manual spammers who will fill in the captcha, no matter which one you use. So as long as the one you are currently using blocks most of it, I think that should be okay.

Though it is always worth it to try different ones to see how they perform (or not) for your purposes. :)

I'm still having issues with getting emails. I test it myself trying a couple of different "from emails" when I submit myself a message through the Contact Form 7. I also tried testing the FSCF and that didn't work when I tested the contact form before using it. It has a "test email" option in the wp dashboard to send yourself an email to test it. I tried 2 of my gmail accounts and received nothing. I tried more than twice, maybe 4 times. I get nothing. UGH! This is all really confusing and frustrating. No telling how many emails I've missed, I hope nothing important, GEEZ! It would be nice to have contact forms that work. They come in handy, and I think it looks professional and it's simple to contact me when visitors need to right off the site. But, I guess if I have to just have my email simply listed on the site, then I will just have to do that.

In cPanel, I see the section Email Authentication and all is disbled. I'm clueless about this section. Does this have anything to do with my situation?

As of right now, I have no contact forms up on my site, I just had to provide my email address instead. Before, I was trying to use 3 different contact forms using CF7. One form for regular contact, one for affiliates request, and one for fan of the month submissions.

I don't know what else I could try.

Sorry to hear you are still having trouble with your contact forms.

One possible workaround, is to use an external SMTP server. You could try the plugin WP Mail SMTP, and send mail through a service like Mandrill. I use it for this forum, and our billing system. The first 12k emails per month are free.
