Every so often, Coppermine will release a new version which fixes recently known security issues.
You should
always upgrade to the latest version when there are security fixes, otherwise you run the risk of your gallery getting hacked.
If you find it difficult or scary to manually upgrade your gallery, simply follow this tutorial for a quick and easy method. It should take no more than 5-10 mins, and you will feel good knowing that your gallery is protected.
Step 1Download our pre-packaged, ready-to-go Coppermine archive.
Version 1.5.36.
If you are using any of the default themes, you will need to backup your theme as this package will overwrite it. The default themes are:
curve, eyeball, hardwired, rainy_day, and water_drop. If you are using a custom theme with a different name, that’s fine, don’t worry.
Step 2Go to your Cpanel > File Manager, and open your gallery folder.
Select the File Manager in Cpanel.
Leave the default settings. Just click “Go”.
Browse to your gallery folder (you may have called it something different, like “photos”) and then click on Upload.
Step 3When you click on the Upload icon (like in the above screenshot) a new tab or window will open. Select the file you downloaded in Step 1 and upload it. Wait until it fully completes uploading.
Step 4Select the file you just uploaded by clicking on it once. Then click on “Exract”.
Select the file.
Extract it.
Leave the defaults as is. Just click on “Extract File(s)”.
Step 5In your browser open the update.php file. For example:
http://example.com/gallery/update.phpReplace “example.com” with your fansite domain name, and replace “gallery” with the folder where you installed your gallery.
Enter your Coppermine username and password on that page and click OK.
Step 6That’s it! Your gallery is now upgraded to the latest version.
When new versions of Coppermine are released, just come back here to download the latest package and repeat the above steps.
